Ingredients

  • 1 large White onion, diced
  • 1 package (8 oz) Egg noodles
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) Tomato sauce
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 1 tsp Garlic salt
  • 1 package (3 oz) Cream cheese
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • ½ cup Shredded sharp Cheddar cheese (or more, to taste)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp White sugar

How to Make Ground Beef Casserole

  1. Cook the Ground Beef:
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess grease. Stir in garlic salt, salt, sugar, and tomato sauce. Simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Cook the Noodles:
In a large pot, boil salted water. Cook egg noodles until al dente, then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  3. Preheat and Prep:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
  4. Mix the Creamy Base:
In a mixing bowl, combine the diced onion, sour cream, and cream cheese. Stir until smooth and well blended.
  5. Assemble the Layers:
Layer half the noodles in the casserole dish. Spread half of the sour cream mixture on top, followed by half of the beef mixture. Repeat the layers.
  6. Add Cheese and Bake:
Sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese generously on top. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
Let rest for a few minutes before serving. This dish pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables.

Tips for Success

Want extra creaminess? Add a splash of heavy cream to the sour cream mix.

For more veggies, stir in sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or bell peppers.

Use reduced-fat cheese and Greek yogurt for a lighter version.
